NYPC PalmPilot SIG Meeting Jan 3, 2007
Ted and Grace from the NYPC PalmPilot SIG just dropped me a line with the details for next week's meeting.
January 3rd meeting: More music on your Palm with 'aacPlus' (vs. MP3)
2007 - out with the old, in with the new
MP3 audio OUT, 'aacPlus' IN
Come see what the newest audio technology has to offer. 'aacPlus' is an audio codec that's been around for a couple of years but is now gaining traction. 'aacPlus' music files are smaller AND have superior audio fidelity than MP3 files. 'aacPlus', NOT 'AAC', produces smaller files and has superior sound to MP3 files ripped at high, 96kbps, or higher rates. Now you can have more songs in the same memory footprint. Whether you have a Palm or not, see how you can rip your music to this exciting new audio format on your PC. Then transfer them to your portable device and take it with you.
WINAMPmp - is used to rip/transcode your music files (http://www.winamp.com). Winamp is freeware. Winamp for the PC has recently added, for free, the ability to convert music files and rip CD's to this format.
Palm: Ptunes Deluxe - not free, but worth it.
(http://www.pocket-tunes.com/). Ptunes, for Palm, has just released version 4.0.1 which includes 'aacPlus'
Hearing is believing. Hear the difference at the Palm SIG, Jan 3, 2007
See you in New Year!
Sincerely,
Ted and Grace
